Alternative Cheap Chicken Coop Design with a Plastic Compost Bin

Compost Bins and Plastic Storage Sheds can be used as cheap chicken coops. The compost bins can also be used for feeding. In mild weather a broody hen can use a compost bin to hatch her chicks.

These bins usually have a handy opening hatch and can be useful as temporary housing for spare cockerels and broody hens (e.g. remove a broody from the main pen and provide temporary housing until the hen is no longer broody).
