Team Lotus - Jim Clark - Clark Type 25 Elise SC
In 1960, Jim Clark joined Colin Chapman's Team Lotus and showed great promise driving the Lotus 18 in his first F1 season. In 1961, although racing the uncompetitive Lotus 21, Clark again showed great potential. In 1962 he took over as number one driver for Lotus taking second place in F1 World Championship.
In the next five years Clark won the World Championship twice and was third twice. In total, he won 25 Grand Prix races. In 1965 he became the first Briton to win the Indianopolis 500-mile race. On April 7, 1968 one of the world's greatest drivers was killed in an unimportant F2 race at Hockerheim.
In tribute to Jim Clark’s achievements, Lotus, in association with Classic Team Lotus, has produced the Clark Type 25 Elise SC. This Elise, limited to 25 cars in the UK (25 being the Type number of his 1963 Lotus F1 car and his number of F1 wins) coincides with the 40th anniversary of Jim Clark’s death. The Clark Type 25 Elise SC was launched at The Scottish Classic SpeedFair at Knockhill on the 8th of June 2008. |
