Scotland MountainsCensus 1871 Scotland

An 1871 census image is a digital image comprising a double page of the original enumeration book, containing the member of a household in which you are interested. Other households will also appear on the image.

The 1871 Census for Scotland was taken on the night of 2/3 April 1871.

A census image contains the following information for each person in a household on census night:

County and District
Relation to head of family
Condition (i.e. married, unmarried, widow or widower)
Rank, profession or occupation
Where born
Whether 1. Deaf and dumb, 2. Blind, 3. Imbecile or idiot, 4. Lunatic

There is also a column in the 1871 census indicating the number of children aged 5-13 attending school or being educated at home, and also one giving the number of rooms in the house with one or more windows.
