Census 1861 Scotland
An 1861 census image is a digital image comprising a double page of the original enumeration book, containing the member of a household in which you are interested. Other households will also appear on the image.
The 1861 Census for Scotland was taken on the night of 7/8 April 1861.
A census image contains the following information for each person in a household on census night:
County and District
Relation to head of family
Condition (i.e. married, unmarried, widow or widower)
Rank, profession or occupation
Whether Blind or Deaf and dumb
There is also a column in the 1861 census indicating the number of children aged 5-13 attending school, and also one giving the number of rooms in the house with one or more windows.
